Dinosaur Facts

What are the three dinosaur periods? Triassic Period (225 to 193 million years ago)
Jurassic Period (193 to 136 million years ago)
Cretaceous Period (136 to 65 million years ago)
How do scientists know that no dinosaurs lived after 65 million years ago? Scientists can tell how old the layers of rock are, and no dinosaur bones have been found in rock that is less than 65 million years old.
Why do scientists find dinosaur bones all over the world? When dinosaurs first appeared, they could walk from the North Pole to the South Pole because the land was all hitched together.
How can you tell meat eaters from plant eaters? Most meat eaters walked on two feet and left footprints which had three toes.  They also had large mouths full of very sharp teeth.
Plant eaters usually walked on four feet and had mouths full of teeth shaped for grinding tuff leafy plants.
Which dinosaur ran the fastest? By looking at the footprints, scientists think the Dromiceiomimus ran about 40 miles per hour.
Which dinosaur was the smallest? The smallest dinosaur that has been discovered is the Mussaurus.  An adult Mussaurus would have been about 10 feet long.
Which dinosaur was the biggest? The biggest dinosaur that has been discovered is the Seismosaurus.  The Seismosaurus was a plant eater that was almost twice the size as the Apatosaurus.  Scientists believe it was about 120-170 feet long and 80-100 tons.
