Analyze This
This 3 week statistics unit covering data analysis is for 8th grade. Students will develop an
understanding of what data is and why it is necessary to record and collect
it. Groups will be responsible for uploading a short presentation (movie, jing, glog, etc.) defining and providing an example of at least
one term from the list. Through investigation, they
will discover and explore statistical measures of central tendency and
statistical representations for measuring data spread. In groups of 2-4, students will choose
a topic of study and develop a hypothesis (comparison of some aspect of their
topic – if necessary with the help of the teacher). An exploration of sampling methods and surveys to record and
collect information will provide students with the foundation to then build an
argument.Students will finally
interpret these different statistical measurements and representations to
formulate a statistical analysis that will prove or disprove their hypothesis and then present their analysis using a web 2.0 tool. (Trailer)
