Final Draft

Thank you all for your feedback.  My final draft  is the 2nd attachment "Professional Development Plan 2."

PD Model

Kristen,

What a great model.  It is well thought out and a huge undertaking.  The administrative piece looks like it will give you a great deal of data.  I think the teachers will learn a lot from this.

Great job!

Great work!! And, a hugh undertaking. I hope some of the
other tech people will take some of the responsibility. Excellent organization
from concept through delivery and evaluation. Some questions and thoughts: Who
will decide (or how will you decide) if the TechFest projects are “worthy?” Are
the tech leaders committed and able to help the teachers with the design and
the on-going support for the PLC’s? What are you going to do about skill levels
in the groups? With a program like iMovie there might be various levels. The
beginners would need quite a bit of support to make it successful. I was
thinking that after the teachers finish their projects that it might be nice
for every teacher to share their projects within the school and then those that
were comfortable could chose to share at the next TechFest.

I really like the idea of a yearly tech goal. I don’t think
it would fly at one of my schools. It seems like a good way to get teachers to
concentrate on moving forward one step at a time. Ava

response

Hi Ava,
Thank you for your insightful feedback.  I added responses to your
questions more implicitly in my revised plan.  To answer your
questions...I  plan on having our district technology personnel
help to approve presenters for our "Tech Fest" to ensure presentations
are quality and appropriate.  The tech leaders (district) level
are aware of this idea and supportive of it...it just needs approval
from our supervisory union.  It's unlikely for it to get
implemented this fall (timing was too late), but I'm going to try for
Fall 2008 which will give me even more time to pull this
together.  To address the varying skill levels, PLC leaders will
differentiate lessons to allow teachers to work at their own
level.  This will help to keep interest up and frustration
down.  Yes, teachers will share completed projects and hopefully
district "Tech Fests" will continue in subsequent years.  Thanks
again for all your suggestions.

Wow!

Kristen--

As always, an excellent job! This plan is incredibly
well thought out. You've clearly cited relevant research, and you have
an extensive evaluation plan.

Nice job!

As I guessed yours is very complete. I thought you covered all of the bases, and it was written well.

One thing that struck me was all of the people in the SU with Technology in their title. I got the feeling from other messages that you are it, for Technology at your school. Your idea of having a tech fair is great; I would also encourage you to get the other "Tech people" to visit your school throughout the year. When teachers hear or get help from a variety of people it goes a long way in normalizing it for them.

We have 6 tech people for the five schools in our SU. We are not many, but out of desperation, we have banded together and created a unified agenda that has really helped to give us some weight when communicating our needs to our superintendent and SU board.

I know it has been helpful for us, and thought it might be worth a try for you guys.

reply

Michael,
Thanks for your kind feedback.

Just wanted to explain to clarify
our tech personnel.  I am a classroom teacher at a smaller K-4
school in my district.  We have several district tech personnel
that oversee IT management and infrastructure.  Last year, our
distrct hired one integration specialist, however my school's board
didn't support it..  So, we have no tech integration support at my
school.  We do have access to the tech help desk (remote access)
and systems engineers.  So, this leaves me in a role as a teacher
leader to assist teachers with technology.  I've become the go to
person.
