Great ideas. Many have commented on your flexible plan which I think is great too.   I like your
ideas regarding showcasing some of the more dynamic webpages that have been
done. This will give the other teachers some impetus to move forward. I wonder
if you could show some exemplary pages from outside of the district too? I also
like your evaluation process because it is thorough. The ongoing observations
will probably be the most helpful.

  It is
interesting that so many of us are in the same boat so to speak in trying to
get our teachers and students to develop web pages.  My school has just had our first website posted and I, too,
will be starting the professional development on utilizing it next year. Our
teachers didn’t want a website (don’t see the value in it) and now don’t really
want to learn to do a page. I’m glad to see this is being taught and encouraged
throughout the state. It is a great communication tool and we should be using
it as such! Ava

PD model

Sue,

This is a great model.  I also like the flexibility you have provided.  I would love to see the survey when you have it ready to go to the teachers.  I struggle with surveys becuase I can't seem to ask the right questions to get the information I can really use.

Hi Cathy-- The survey is up

Hi Cathy--

The survey is up and viewable--see the resource
link. I must have made several changes just this afternoon--it seems I
keep thinking of other important questions to ask, yet I want to keep
it short and unintimidating.

I'd really appreciate your feedback--

Survey

Sue,

Great survey.  I love the flexibility you have given to the teachers.  It is great that you can offer so many options.  I also like the questions, they are specific and require teachers to make a choice as to what they prefer.  (I am assuming that they all know what NVU and Moodle are.)  It is short and to the point - awesome!

Never mind - all that sun got to me today I guess :)

Nicely done!  As others have mentioned, I like the flexibility
and differentiation in your program.  Just as our students need
differentation, so do teachers.  I know I get bored when easily
when I've participated in tech workshops that just covered the basics
at a SLOW pace.  While it was needed for others, I didn't need
it.  Also, I thnk allowing for differences in one-shot trainings
versus ongoing is essential...especially when your teachers all already
know how to create web pages using your old program.  Some
teachers may end up only needing a one-shot deal and be able to fly on
their own.  It sounds like you really thought through this.

Also,
I like that you've identified so many people to help support your plan
and that this is all nicely aligned to your tech plan.  I think
the communication goal is very important.  That will help to keep
all your stakeholders aware and up to date.  Nice and thorough
evaluation plan, too!

Web Page PD

Sue, I like how this plan has a lot of flexibility for varying
needs. I was just following the conversation here about Google Page Creator. My
PD plan utilizes that tool and I plan to stick with it even if it doesn’t come
with Google Apps. When the teachers I have worked with see how easy it is to
use, they won’t mind having a Gmail account as an individual. I am trying to
get my PD module posted here…

Eric-- I was not able to get

Eric--

I was not able to get the okay to go with Google page
creator. There was the desire to keep everything, including email,
in-house. I'm concerned about some of the clunkiness of NVU, but my
hope is that since most of our staff has already had some experience
with creating and maintaining web pages and have had to work through
glitches with other programs, this will at least not be any worse.
Wow--I really am more optimistic than that just sounded. :)

Nice job!

Sue,

Nice job. I think you are right these more concrete skill based trainings have to be more flexible, it’s about getting everyone comfortable with a tool so that they can use it as a means of expression. I think coming at addressing the various learning styles is particularly helpful in skill based learning.

I am also doing a PD on Web design. I had hoped to use Google’s Page Creator, but now I have been informed that it is only available for admin users. So I am looking for plan “B” which is looking like it will be NVU as it is free and available in Windows/Apple/Linux platforms. What web design program are you guys planning to use?

Plan B for us too

Michael—

We’re now going to go with plan “B” as well -- in fact this is a new
development since I posted this plan. I think most staff will be using
NVU. I’m going to try to create a template for those folks who want
that option, although I first want to find out what they feel are
essential components of a class/team web page.

We have some teachers who are anxious to bring on more of an online
course component that includes either blogging or a threaded
discussion, perhaps posting and sharing of assignments, so we’re also
going to try Moodle. Our Mac technician just installed it yesterday, so
I have a lot to learn in the very near future about it. The staff who
may want to use Moodle, though, are pretty tech savvy, so it might be something
we work through together.
