String Program

"...we have so much evidence now that music is good for the mind-good for the brain power... it has been demonstrated that children can raise SAT scores dramatically when they start a musical instrument... and they don't really need to be proficient." Geoffery Ovington instrument maker.

Geoffrey Ovington does more than just talk about music being good for children. He made and donated four half-sized string instruments to North Bennington Graded School: two violins, a viola, and a cello. NBGS may well be the only elementary school with a half size string quartet.

NBGS'string program was created by Catharine Hall-Schor, a gifted violist and teacher, along with much support from the members of The Bennington String Quartet: Joseph Schor, violin; Harriet Dearden-Welther,violin; Catharine Hall-Schor,viola; and Nathaniel Parke, cello. Their never-ending support helps make our wonderful String Program possible.
