Parent's Newsletter

JUNE 2008

Dear Parents:

How hard it is to believe that the month of June is already upon us,
bringing with it the flurry of activities associated with the end of
the school year!  We would like to share the following highlights with you.

END OF THE YEAR NOTICES:

8TH GRADE GRADUATION DATE
This year's 8th grade graduation will be held at the Barre Auditorium
on Monday, June 16, at 6:00 p.m. This is a significant rite of
passage for our 8th graders.  We extend a special invitation to 8th
grade parents and relatives to be present at this celebration.

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
The final day of school will be on Tuesday, June 17.  There will be
an early dismissal on this day.  Grade 5-8 students will be dismissed
after lunch at 11:10.  Grade K-4 students will be dismissed, after
lunch, at noon.

LOST AND FOUND
We have a  number of items that have accumulated in our lost and
found.  If your child is missing any clothing, please feel free to
check through the coat racks and table located right outside our
school office.  All clothing left there after the last day of school
will be brought to the Salvation Army.

REMINDER TO INFORM OFFICE OF CHANGES IN ADDRESS/PHONE NUMBERS IN SUMMER
Over the summer, please keep our office updated regarding any changes
in phone numbers, addresses, or day care services that might impact
bus schedules and mailings that will be sent out in August.  Thank you.

25 BOOKS PER YEAR STATE STANDARD
We want to remind you that the state standard and our school's
expectation is that all children in grades 4-12 will read at least 25
books, or their equivalent, every year.  In order to accomplish this
goal, we ask that all current grade 3-8 children read at least  5
books during the summer.  We will be sending home a list of
recommended books available in our school library along with a
booklet for you and your child to use to record and respond to the
books s/he reads during the summer.  The selections should be high
quality and appropriate for your child's reading level.  Thank you
for your support of this important expectation!

MEMORIAL DAY SERVICES HELD
On May 22, our school held our annual Memorial Day Program.  In
addition to student readings and singing, the Spaulding High School
Junior ROTC group performed a flag demonstration.

2008 SUMMER SCHOOL PLANS
Our summer school program will be similar to last year's.  The
program will begin on July 7 and end on July 25.   The primary focus
will be on math and reading.   If your child has been referred to the
summer school program,  we cannot overstate how important it is for
you  to see that s/he attends each of the 15 sessions during the
month of July.  Attendance at summer school helps children maintain
the progress they have made to date and, in most cases, actually
raises their performance levels.

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION EVENING
We are hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Evening on Thursday, June 12
at 6:00 p.m. here in our lunch room.  There are close to 200
volunteers who have helped support our students this year.    We use
this evening to recognize all of our volunteers and to share light
refreshments.  A very special thank you goes to all volunteers for
your many, many contributions to the lives of our students!

*******************************************

As we approach the conclusion of this school year, we both wish to
extend our heartfelt thanks to each one of you for the many, many
contributions you have made to the school throughout the year and for
your continual support of the programs and activities that take place
here.  It is only with your active involvement that we can provide
the best educational experiences for your child.  Again, thank you.

Please remember to continue to reserve that precious 15-30 minutes
each evening to read either to or with your child...even during the summer!

In advance, we wish you and your families a healthy, active, and
wonderful summer vacation.  We are already looking forward to seeing
your children return to school on Tuesday, August 26, to begin a new
school year!

Happy Summer!

Respectfully,

Michele Cote        James Taffel
