Stories
Stories that are read to students by using the technology of the computer can serve a definite purpose as one of the tools for creating a literacy environment. These stories are not meant to replace the “human” element of an adult reading a story to a child. However, as an extra literacy experience, the online story helps to develop fluency, an appreciation for literature, and an understanding of the elements of a story. Some web sites that have electronic stories for children are:
§ Merpy
§ Reading Recovery - Margo Grace is our school expert
§ Vocabulary University (Grades 5 & up, worth a try with 4th Grade)
§ Wacky Web Tales (like Mad Libs)
§ Fake Out– A Definition Guessing Game
§ Merriam-Websters Spelling Bee Hive
